INDUSTRIAL BEARING TECHNOLOGY

In 1900, the middle of the industrial revolution, anti-friction bearings were made but not used. No one could calculate how long they might last before failure. Machine builders were afraid to gamble on these newfangled devices. Fortunately a talented mechanical engineer working from 1910 to 1930 was responsible for the correct calculation of bearing life, but in order to achieve the remarkable life expected some specific parameters had to be followed to measure, fit, and properly install these precision anti-friction bearings. This course covers all aspects of industrial bearings. Choosing them, alignment, installation, lubrication, inspection, fitting and failure analysis. Bearing are removed and installed on various pieces of equipment using both the hydraulic press and cone heater. Trainees are taught how to use micrometers to measure shafts and housing diameters to the 0.0001”.
